Seven segments per digit are used to display numerical information. Typical applications are clocks, instrumentation, counters, calculators, cash registers and scales.
Alphanumeric Displays
14 s11egments per digit are used to display upper case letters and numerical information. Typical applications are instrumentation, gaming machines, measurement, scales, point of sale terminals, credit card authorisation terminals and vending machines.
Dot Matrix Displays
Dot matrix characters with 5x7dots per digit are used to display upper and lower case text, some limited symbols, Japanese Katakana and numerical information. Typical applications are instrumentation, industrial control, measurement, scales, point of sale terminals, medical, equipment and vending machines.
Graphic Displays
Freely addressable pixels offering maximum flexibility to display symbols, graphics, text and numerical information. Typical applications are instrumentation, industrial control, measurement, scales, point of sale terminals, business machines and medical equipment.
Custom Displays
For specific applications, custom VFDs with up to nine different phosphor colours are available. To develop a custom VFD, a display pattern drawing should be submitted to Futaba in accordance with the design rules described in application note: AN1401i. Within 2 weeks a specification is produced and sent to the customer for approval. Engineering samples can be delivered 60 days after receipt of specification approval and a development order. Mass production parts can be delivered 9 weeks after receipt of engineering sample approval and a minimum quantity production order.
